We have a SIEM tool in place - why would we need Cisco Vulnerability Management?

While SIEMs are designed to alert you to what's happening on your network right now, Cisco Vulnerability Management is focused on fixing root cause security issues. Also, the vulnerability assessment import capabilities of SIEMs don't give the user a full view of their IT vulnerability risk in that they don't group vulnerabilities together from layer 7 all the way down the OSI stack. And, even though some SIEM tools provide "connectors" into vulnerability assessment tools in order to import vulnerability data, the data imported is raw and requires the user to sift through it to normalize scoring, definitions and attributes, and to aggregate and correlate the data to make sense of it all. Cisco Vulnerability Management is actually complementary to SIEMs and can be tied together through the RESTful API.
